INVITATION
Το Ελληνικό Ανοικτό Πανεπιστήμιο (ΕΑΠ), διοργανώνει για πρώτη φορά Θερινό Σχολείο με τίτλο «Διαχείριση Υγρών Αποβλήτων», στο πλαίσιο του Προγράμματος Μεταπτυχιακών Σπουδών (Π.Μ.Σ.) «Διαχείριση Αποβλήτων».
Πρόκειται για Θερινό Σχολείο, εξ αποστάσεως ηλεκτρονικής εκπαίδευσης, το οποίο θα περιλαμβάνει παρουσιάσεις από διακεκριμένους Έλληνες και ξένους καθηγητές και ερευνητές από διάφορα πανεπιστήμια και ερευνητικά ινστιτούτα (Γερμανία, Ελβετία, Ισπανία, Ισραήλ, Ιταλία).
Το Σχολείο θα διεξαχθεί από 20/07/2015 έως 25/07/2015 και απευθύνεται σε δημόσιους και ιδιωτικούς φορείς, σε προπτυχιακούς/μεταπτυχιακούς φοιτητές, υποψήφιους διδάκτορες, μεταδιδακτορικούς ερευνητές και γενικά σε επιστήμονες που ασχολούνται με τα θέματα της επεξεργασίας και διαχείρισης των αποβλήτων. Το Σχολείο στοχεύει στην ενημέρωση σχετικά με τις νέες τεχνολογίες και τις πρακτικές διαχείρισης των υγρών αποβλήτων, με μεταφορά εμπειριών και τεχνογνωσίας από διαφορετικές χώρες. Στους συμμετέχοντες θα χορηγηθεί βεβαίωση συμμετοχής.
Το ΕΑΠ στοχεύει στην καθιέρωση του συγκεκριμένου Θερινού Σχολείου και τη διοργάνωσή του σε ετήσια βάση από το τρέχον έτος, με πλήρη διεθνοποίηση και εμπλουτισμό της θεματολογίας του με θέματα που θα αφορούν, τόσο στερεά, όσο και αέρια απόβλητα.
Θα ήθελα να προσκαλέσω τους ενδιαφερόμενους να εγγραφούν μέσω της ιστοσελίδας του Σχολείου και να διαχύσουν τη διοργάνωση αυτή σε άλλους πιθανούς αποδέκτες.
Θα ήθελα τέλος να εκφράσω τις πιο θερμές ευχαριστίες μου σε όλους εκείνους που αγκάλιασαν από την πρώτη στιγμή την προσπάθεια αυτή και ιδιαίτερα στους συμμετέχοντες συναδέλφους, των ελληνικών και ξένων Πανεπιστημίων και ερευνητικών ινστιτούτων.

The Hellenic Open University is organizing the 1st distance education e-learning Summer School on “Management of Wastewater” (WWSS15), in the context of the Postgraduate Study Programme “Waste Management”. The School will take place on July 20-25, 2015, in Patras. Experts in the field from Hellenic and foreign universities and research institutes from different countries (Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Israel, and Italy) will present data on new trends in wastewater management technologies and will also report on interesting case studies. WWSS15 summer school’s target group are public and private institutions, undergraduate/postgraduate students, doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers and generally scientists interested in wastewater management issues.
We aim to organize the WWSS on an annual basis, to promote its full internationalization by accepting foreign students from the 2015-2016 academic year, and to enrich its programme with topics concerning both solid and gaseous waste.
I would cordially like to invite all interested parties to register to the WWSS15 via its website, and to disseminate this educational event.
Finally, I would like to express my warmest thanks to all those who have supported this effort, and especially my colleagues from the Hellenic and foreign universities and research institutes.

SUMMER SCHOOL LOCATION
The city of Patras is located in the NW Peloponnese, 213km west of Athens. It is the capital of the prefecture of Achaia, the largest city in the Peloponnese and the third largest in Greece. Patras is Greece’s “Gate to the West”, it’s harbour connecting the whole country with the ports of Western Europe. The city’s history can be traced back to the second millennium B.C. and the Mycenean civilizations, but it is during the 19th Century that the city flourished and became an important centre of commerce. Patras is interesting and attractive with archaeological sites and neoclassical buildings blending with modern residences and commerce. Places worth seeing in Patras include the Fortress, the Roman Odeon, the archaeological and folklore museums, St. Andrew’s Cathedral, the Municipal Theatre and Gallery, and Achaia Clauss winery. Today, the city is an important cultural centre where the Hellenic Open University plays a leading role.
